Re: Underarm Pain and swelling

Hello JaKris24

Thanks for posting.

It’s understandable you are concerned about the pain and swelling you have experienced for the last six weeks, especially as you mom died from breast cancer.

I see you had a mammogram in October but unsure if this was though the routine screening or through the breast clinic as a result of a referral from your GP. Do return to your GP as soon as you can to explain your concerns. They may suggest a referral to the breast clinic if this hasn’t been done or they may recommend you see a different type of specialist if they are unable to diagnose what is causing your symptoms.

Sometimes other conditions can cause symptoms like this, such as cardiac problems so it would be important to see a doctor without delay.

Do call our free, confidential Helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The number is 0808 800 6000.

Best wishes

Re: Underarm Pain and swelling

Hi
I would go back to my GP if I were you and ask for further tests. I don’t want to scare you but the fact is that not all breast tumours manifest as lumps and mammograms do not detect all breast tumours. I was given an all clear on a mammogram in May and diagnosed with cancer a couple of months later- no lump felt in the breast. Obviously I’m in the minority but given your history I would hope that your GP would agree to further tests to establish the cause of the pain and swelling and that hopefully it will be something that is easily rectified. I know it’s easier said than done but try not to worry and go to the appointment armed with the facts and push for further investigation. Best of luck 💕

Underarm Pain and swelling

I have had pain shooting from my underarm into my left breast since August 18. The pain would come and go at first. It has become persistent and nothing helps the pain. I had a mammogram Oct 30. It was normal. My chest now hurts constantly as well as my underarm. What do I need to do? My mom had breast cancer. But she had a lump that did not hurt. She passed away. I’m really concerned because it’s been painful and swelling for at least 6 weeks.
