This sounds like a worrying time for you and it’s understandable that you want to know more about what this latest information may mean.
Each person’s situation is different and many factors will be considered in estimating your prognosis and in deciding what treatment you’re offered. When breast cancer spreads to the bone, it can be treated but cannot be cured. Treatment aims to control and slow down the spread of the cancer, relieve symptoms and give you the best quality of life for as long as possible.
After a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer, many people want to know how long they’ve got to live. As treatments have improved, more and more people are living longer after a diagnosis of secondary breast cancer. However, life expectancy is difficult to predict as each person’s case is different and no two cancers are the same.
Your specialist can talk to you about the likely progression of your secondary breast cancer. You may worry if their answers are vague, but it isn’t possible to accurately predict how each person’s illness will respond to treatment.
If you are not already aware, we provide a number of different services for people living with secondary breast cancer aimed at providing both information and support.
Do call our free, confidential Helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The number is 0808 800 6000.
Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday. Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.
Please be aware that we will be closed on Saturday 18 May for training purposes.
