Re: When to get a prosthesis

Hello chezweedon

Thanks for your post.

It can take several weeks for the chest area to settle after radiotherapy and it isn’t unusual for it to feel tender and tight for some time after this. You may want to wait for a few weeks until you have your prosthesis made so that it is a comfortable fit for you.

Do call our free, confidential Helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The number is 0808 800 6000.

We are currently reviewing our Forum service and wonder if you would have five to 10 minutes to complete a short survey. The survey will help us gather information about this service and understand more about any improvements we can make.

When to get a prosthesis

Hi, had left breast mastectomy in November 2018 and finished radiotherapy 29th January 2019.

Chest area still feels a bit tight and sore in a couple of places, nothing that stops me doing anything though.

I have elected to have a prosthesis made, but not sure how soon I can have this. Any advice would be very helpful.

TIA
