Re: Breast screening appointment age 24

Hi YvieG

Thanks for your post.

We’re often asked questions when people are going to the breast clinic for assessment of a breast change.  As Ann has explained, you’ll be seen by one of the doctors before any other tests. You can read more information about what to expect at the breast clinic by reading our web information.

Many women will receive an answer as to the cause of their symptom on the day they attend the clinic. Others may wait a few days for results, especially if they’ve had a biopsy.  The hospital would usually give you an appointment to get the results before you leave, should this be necessary.

Do call our free, confidential Helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The number is 0808 800 6000.

Our opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and 9am -1pm on Saturday. Out of hours you can leave a message and we will call you back when we next open.

We are currently reviewing our Forum service and wonder if you would have five to 10 minutes to complete a short survey. The survey will help us gather information about this service and understand more about any improvements we can make.

Best wishes

Re: Breast screening appointment age 24

Hi Yvie,

What usually happens is you will be seen by the Dr & will have an examination. An ultrasound is normally done & if it is clear what it is, you will be told then. A mammogram maybe done, although this is less useful in young women.

If it ‘s not clear what it is, then a biopsy is usually done, in which case there is a week or 2s wait for the results.

The normal outcome is that it turns out to be nothing serious & thankfully, you’re getting it properly checked out.

Breast screening appointment age 24

I have a lump in my breast (age 24). My GP has sent me for a screening appointment. Can you tell me what to expect? How soon will I be told the results?
