Nipple reconstruction

Re: Nipple reconstruction

I ended up going to a&e this morning as have been worried about infection. Was really glad I went as dressing was taken off and the nurse cleaned up the blood and tried to mimic the plastic surgeons dressing as much as possible. Part of the skin seemed more raw like it hasn't healed as well but the bleeding has stopped. I still need to contact the plastic surgeon but for now it was good to see it and have the area cleaned. Also there has been no more bleeding since so hopefully all is ok now.

Thank you all

Re: Nipple reconstruction

How did you get on uk2014?

I had expander replaced with silicon implant plus uplift on good side on Tuesday. Still in hospital - private one - can't fault the accessibility to the right staff here.

Really hope you've got sorted out, it's no fun not knowing what to do x

Re: Nipple reconstruction

i had a nipple reconstruction and had no blood whatsoever after the inital surgery where it bled for about 10 mins -if it is bleeding then there could be a problem - if you have no number to ring for problems then a and e is probably your best option.  Not nice I know but there will be consultants on call and I am sure you will get to see someone with the right expertise but you probably will have to wait.     good luck x

True Jill, maybe I should just go and not be so judgemental with it! Thank you

Re: Nipple reconstruction

Thank you both for your comments.

I have tried my BCN but everyone is off and all I am getting is an answering machine. To be fair I had my mastectomy nearly 2 years ago so only have contact with the nurses when I go in for check ups. I am really surprised too that I was not given an emergency contact. I am not sure whether me going to a private clinic had anything to do with it. I did call the hospital where the mastectomy took place but they said that they cannot see me as I need to be seen where the surgery took place. My next stop is a&E but I am not sure how I feel about a general nurse having a look. From what I understand a nipple shield was build around the nipple to stop it flattening out so think it might be specialised dressing. Note to all- never have surgery before a long bank holiday!!!!

Riversidedawn - good luck with your reconstruction. What are you having done?

Re: Nipple reconstruction

Can you contact your BCN or do you have an out of hours surgery? Surprised your consultant didn't give you emergency advice. I'm sitting in hospital right now after reconstruction surgery last Tuesday, waiting for surgeon to call in en route to the airport for holibobs!

Nipple reconstruction

Hi all, I recently had a nipple reconstruction and am shocked at the amount of blood that I now have two days after my op. I was told the op is minor and now I am worried that something had gone wrong. As it is bank holiday weekend I cannot seem to get hold of anybody so am not sure what to do. I could go to A&E however it has been dressed in such a way that the nipple is protected. Any ladies out there who have had this op? If yes, did you have a lot of blood. My blood is not coming through the dressing but approx 90% of the dressing is covered in blood.

Thanks for my advice
