Hi Mishy. Appointment went well thanks. Consultant was delighted and doesn’t want to see me again. Had a bit of a down day yesterday more with frustration of finding a comfortable bra!
You sound so similar to me. My effected breast was much smaller than my other breast - I’m also have ample proportions! The mastectomy side used to swell to the size of my normal breast.
I don’t think breast lymphoedema and it’s effects are understood and as you say not really discussed as a side effect of radiotherapy.
It wasn’t until I sought specialist help that I found a medical professional who really understood what I was going through.
I’m not considering reconstruction but I am thinking of a breast reduction but it’s not offered on the nhs in our area. Email to MP with campaign from breast cancer now has been sent.
I hope you are getting on ok.
Best wishes. Xx
Hi Mishy, I’m glad you have been seen. The compression bras are truly awful but hopefully wearing it will help you.
I’m going to the hospital this afternoon to see the consultant for results and dressing off. Am hoping there will be no nasty surprises!
Are you being reviewed again?
Best wishes x
Mishy my breast was quite red and painful and when I saw the lymphoedema expert he thought I had a grumbling cellulitis so put me on long term antibiotics. Might be an option? X
Thank you, I think I’m doing ok! Have 2 trips to the hospital this coming week.
I found that the basic massage I used to do wasn’t enough to control my breast lymphoedema. The lymphoedema nurses used to do a deeper hivamat massage which worked well but the effect didn’t last long. I also had kinesiology taping which helped. I also tried compression bras and something like an egg box stuffed in my bra!
It’s quite difficult to treat.
My skin didn’t dimple but I had a lot of swelling.
Best wishes x
I do hope you get your lymphoedema clinic appointment soon. Unfortunately it seems to be a very over stretched service everywhere. X
Hi Mishy, how are you getting on? Have you had your appointment yet?
i has my mastectomy yesterday, hoping that it solves my problems. Take care x
Thank you. I feel breast lymphoedema gets overlooked, trying to find information and help is very difficult. Please don’t hesitate to ask if you need some support (me or health professionals- although I resorted to google!). ! Xx
Thank you. I am having a mastectomy in June to hopefully solve my issues. My breast gets so swollen and painful that I just want to get rid of it. I really hope your problem gets sorted.
Do let me know how you get on. X
Hi I have lympodema 4 months after radiotherapy . I felt sore and my skin was thick like Orange peel. Bcn referred me to lympodema clinic and I have massage there every two weeks and wear a compression sleeve daily. At first I was worried about the sleeve just another thing! But I've coped very well with it and I massage myself each day too. The nurse at clinic , who is amazing, says I can choose when to wear sleeve now as things are looking and feeling so much better. I hope you get this sorted soon. It's all doable but another thing to get through. Lots of love and best wishes x
I get quite marked by the end of the day. I wear a prosthesis to balance and it leaves loads of marks over my breast. I was told my lymphoedema was related to my radiotherapy. I was diagnosed in 2010 and have had breast lymphoedema for about 5 years. Good luck.
HI, I suffer with breast lymphoedema. I have a lot of thickening and hard fibrous tissue but no pitting of the skin. I have regular hivamat massages with the lymphoedema nurses to help control the symptoms but am so troubled with it I am having a mastectomy in June. I hope you get some answers and reassurance. Best wishes x
