Re: Recurrence in Chest Wall 1 year after Mastectomy

Hi Rhi  glad you got through your chemo hope it wasn't to tough for you. I'm sure you will sail through radiotherapy. I finished mine October. I just take anastrazole. I had zoladex injections for 2 years. They are not too bad at all.. they stopped my periods and can remember having hot flushes with them🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ good look with radiotherapy although I'm sure after chemo it will be a breeze. Take care Jo.xxx

Hi Jo, sorry only seen your msg today, haven’t been on here for a while. I finished chemo on the 2/01/19. I’m waiting now for a start date for radiotherapy. Saw my oncologist this morning and he wants me to do monthly injections of Zoladex to shut ovaries down and to take letrozole. Need to read up on these, don’t know much about them. How is everything with you? x

Oh no😔 that seems a long time but hopefully time will pass quickly for you. You will get through it💪💪 and I'm sure you will meet others while having treatment and all get through it together. It must be a lot for you to take in though but stay positive🤗 Don't forget the forum on here Going through treatment it might help you.xx
I'm ok thanks had to go back last week had a build up of fluid and had to have It drained. Should start radiotherapy in about 3 weeks.

Re: Recurrence in Chest Wall 1 year after Mastectomy

Hello so sorry you will need chemo😥 I'm gutted for you. Maybe chemo will be the best option for you as the injections they mentioned only shut down your ovaries while you are having them for 2 years and with you being young your oncologist probably thinks you would benefit from chemo. You have come this far and im sure you will get through the chemo.💪💪 Think positive.. that the chemo and radiotherapy treatment will prevent this horrible disease from returning once and for all.theres forums on here about going through treatment go on them and get advice it will help you to know your not alone.. stay strong you will get through this💖💖
I'm doing ok thanks..finally had drain out after 3 weeks. Got dexa scan next week and planning scan for radiotherapy which should start October. Stay strong and take care.Jo xxxx

Re: Recurrence in Chest Wall 1 year after Mastectomy

Hello. That's great news about the surgery and sounds like you won't need chemo.😊 I've been today and my surgery went well.she said I won't benefit with chemo so I 've got to have radiotherapy and my hormone treatment is anastrazole because I'm post menopause. I had tamaxofin first time round and zoladex monthly injections for 2 years which shut down my ovaries which sounds like what you might be offered. It is all go at the minute but hopefully we are on the right track.I've healed really well although she didn't take my drain out as my output is a bit too much so got to go back next week. I hope your meeting with onc goes well and you sort out best options for you. Take care 💖💖 xx

Re: Recurrence in Chest Wall 1 year after Mastectomy

Hiya, I saw my consultant on wednesday-he is happy with the surgery so next step is to meet with an oncologist to arrange radiotherapy. We also need to sort out changing tamoxifen (it hasn’t worked for me) but because I’m pre-menopause I don’t think there’s many options.Maybe injections to shut down ovaries/hysterectomy-these are things I’ll need to discuss with oncologist before deciding whats best for me.It’s all go 🙈 How are things with you?Hope it’s healing well with you xxxxx

Sounds like you’re in a similar situation to me.I know I will need radiotherapy but not sure about chemo yet. They said results from op should be back in around 2 weeks so maybe I’ll hear something next week.I hope the 10th comes round quickly for you so you can get that drain out 👍🏻 xxxx

That's good Rhi glad your healing well. I'm ok thanks just a little uncomfortable with drain in. I've got an appointment 10th Aug they will take it out then. I'm changing the drain every couple of days and ring nurse everyday to let her know how much I'm draining. When I go on the 10th not sure if I will no what treatment I'm having. I know its definitely radio but not sure about chemo.. Hope you carry on healing well.when will you know what treatment you will have? Take care Jo.xx

Re: Recurrence in Chest Wall 1 year after Mastectomy

Hello I'm 49 I had mastectomy 9 years ago. No chemo no radio was on zoladex injections for 2years and tamoxafin for 5 years. I have just been diagnosed with local reoccurrance..i found a hard lump along my mastectomy scar. Its estrogen positive like before and have started anastrazole which is similar to tamoxafin only for post menopause. I've had a ct scan which was clear and I'm waiting for bone scan results. I should be having lumpectomy and implant removed on 30th July but my bone scan has still not been looked at.im hoping to know more this Thursday. My mind is working overtime because until I know the exact plan and diagnosis I can't relax. The waiting is awful as you know. I hope you've had your scans and results are ok so they can get your treatment plan sorted. Take comfort that you are not alone.xx

Re: Recurrence in Chest Wall 1 year after Mastectomy

Hello, CT scan and bone scan were all clear so it looks like a local reccurance- the plan is operation on tuesday (lumpectomy of the chest wall) then most probably radiotherapy starting sometime in september. They will put a final treatment plan together once the pathology report comes back after operation. Thank you both for your messages 💗 xxxx

Re: Recurrence in Chest Wall 1 year after Mastectomy

Hi Rhi32, it’s cometely soul destroying when it comes back. I am on my third recurrence since original diagnosis September 2016. I had a lumpectomy first. Then a mastectomy. Mine had never spread so each time a local recurrence. It’s very scary & your mind will go into overdrive. You will feel better & more in control once you have a plan. Maybe prepare yourself that they’ll want to give you chemo this time. I hope you get your results soon & can move on with your next lot of treatment. Deep breaths & don’t let it beat you down xx

Recurrence in Chest Wall 1 year after Mastectomy

Hello, I am 33 years old.I was first diagnosed with Breast Cancer in May 2017.I had a Mastectomy and was put on Tamoxifen for 10 years (no radiotherapy, no chemo) My oncotype score was 15.
A few months ago I noticed a firm/hard area just under the Mastectomy scar line. Saw my Consultant who decided to do a biopsy.Went back for results last Wednesday and it turns out to be Cancer yet again. Has anybody else experienced a recurrence in the chest wall? I’m currently waiting for a CT scan and bone scan before they decide on a treatment plan xx
