Re: Result day again tommorrow

Hi love , work have been great I will go back on a phased return ... I won’t be having chemo as my Oncotype score was low so wouldn’t be of any benefit for me so it’s the tamoxifen and zoladex , yes i think you’re right about pre menopausal women as it suppresses your ovaries and stops them working , just see how it all affects me now fingers crossed not many SE.. good luck with your journey 😘

Re: Result day again tommorrow

I hope work will be ok especially if your having chemo at the same time. I will have chemo first and then start hormone therapy. I wonder if the injection is given to women still having periods as well as tamoxifen. Hope all goes well keep me updated xxx

Re: Result day again tommorrow

Hello everyone just reading the replies to my original message - Alvilajo hope your doing ok

my Oncotype results came back on both tumours 1 score was 18 and the other 7 . My oncologist therefore suggested chemo wouldn’t be of any benefit.  My plan is to take tamoxifen which I’ve started taking a week ago fingers crossed no side effects as yet and also I will be receiving Monthly zoladex injections my first was given to me on Friday. So I’m in a waiting game for effects of this.

Its been a 4 month rollercoaster I’ll never forget and hopefully I’m on the last bend before getting off xx I’m back to work in 2 weeks on a phased return and getting used to my prosthesis.. this forum has been a great help

thank you for everyone’s support xx

I bet you do.  I don't know when your appointment is this week to discuss any trial (we are assumimg Optima), but I just wanted to wish you all the best with it and that you emerge with a clear head.  Hopefully someone will support you in looking at the pros and cons of each path with your individual circumstances so you make the best choice for you.

Best Wishes,

Re: Result day again tommorrow

Hi. I don't regret joining the trial. My oncologist said that there is evidence to suggest that early stage breast cancers respond just as well to endocrine (hormone) treatment then chemotherapy. I feel well now (except I have developed lymphodema) and back at work full time.  Have some side effects to the hormone treatment but manageable. I am happy to answer any queries regarding the trial X

Re: Result day again tommorrow

Hi. Yes it was a difficult decision to make as there are three outcomes. You don't get tested and go on to have chemo. You get tested and the results show you still need chemo. You get tested and the results show you don't need chemo. I did a lot of research and looked at the results of the prelimary trial and I hope, that by joining the trial, I am helping other ladies in the future. The Marsden already offer this test privately. Endocrine treatment is as explained. I am on Tamoxifen and monthly Zoladex injections to suppress my ovaries (I was peri menopausal). Michele

Hello Alvilajo,

And even more for you to consider and digest........

As Michelle below, I was also wondering if it may be Optima Trial using Prosigna test on tissue samples. Here is a link for info, and you can find current Breast cancer and other trials on the Cancer UK web site.

https://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/find-a-clinical-trial/a-trial-looking-predict-when-che...

By the way, "endocrine" treatment in the context below, to the best of my knowledge, means hormone treatment such as Tamoxifen or the Aromatose Inhibitor type meds.

Regards to you,

Hi ya i hope you got on ok today with treatment plan etc.

My results were  chemo and radio therapy , about 3 weeks time it will start. It will be 1 session every 3 weeks 4 times then 1 session every 2 weeks 4 times so 20 weeks and then the radio therapy so I'm looking 25 plus weeks. I don't think I'm gonna do the cold cap as your hair still thins and needs to be shorter so no point. I'm just gonna have to accept it's gonna go and that's the tough bit. I can't take tomoxafin as I take sertraline so it will  be another tablet and a monthly injection to stop overies. I didn't ask to many questions like scores etc as didn't feel it made any difference. Xxx

Hi just to say the cold cap can and does work . I started chemo March 19 and kept 80 to 90 per cent of my hair now on weekly Paclitaxel lower doses so expect to keep it . I did get a wig in case . The hard bit is the 10 minute brain freeze and extra hours on chemo ward . Understand not a priority for many of us but worth considering

Re: Result day again tommorrow

Hi Alviilajo. I wonder if they are going to discuss the Optima trial with you? It's suitable for patients who have node involvement. I was diagnosed in Sept 2017 and joined the Optima trial. I was tested (only half of the participants get tested) and it showed that endocrine treatment would work well for me as opposed to chemotherapy so I went straight to radiotherapy. Regards. Michele

Re: Result day again tommorrow

Thanks, I had s phone call at 6.30 from my oncologist asking me to go back next week to discuss a trial which doesn't use chemo, he didn't go into much detail but from what he did say they send my blood off and it's tested to see if chemo actually benefits me, I'm going to go but until I know more nothing's changed. They did mention a trial in the very beginning of my diagnoses. Maybe because I went for a trial mamo in under 50's !!! Cx

Re: Result day again tommorrow

Hello Alvilajo, Sorry to hear that you need to go down the chemo route. On the plus side you are in very good company and no doubt will find and give support on the apt chemo threads. Losing head hair, amongst other things, is yet another downer. Mind you, I still have my wig stored in its box - didn't even have it trimmed to fit. Just wore hats and kept a little bit of fringe for as long as possible so that it showed at the front. I did use the cold cap. I think because my hair was so thick it didn't penetrate very well and it started to come out after second treatment. Mind you, I still used it for 5 of the 6 sessions as I understood it may protect regrowth. In the end we weigh up and chose what is best for ourselves and our own situation. So I hope you can take things one step at a time as it seems like you had a lot to digest today. Wishing you all the best, Chick 🐥 x

Re: Result day again tommorrow

Hello Samarshall, Hopefully someone will come along with better knowledge than me and let you know the likely wait for Oncotype result. I never had one as I was her2+ and targeted treatment for that type was given with or/and after chemo. Personally I would contact medical staff and ask how long it may be. If it helps, think of it as a worthy wait that may save months of treatment and the physical and mental effects that can come with chemo or will indicate that chemo will be beneficial for your circumstances and it is your choice whether to accept it. Yes, when I was going through hospital treatment, it seemed like a constant waiting game - even after getting a treatment plan. Waiting for surgery date after chemo was the absolute pits (as med staff/hospital screwed up a bit there). So yes, total empathy with you and anyone else going through the Waiting Is Torture stage. Best Wishes to you, Chick 🐥 x PS. Would have "hugged" your Post but does not seem to be letting me hug anyone today.... So here's another type of 🤗 🤗 🤗

Re: Result day again tommorrow

Hello Chick & hddh

I'm finding this waiting so hard.  6 weeks post surgery and agreed to Oncotype a week ago. How long does it usually take to get the results? Seem to have spent the last 3 months waiting for some kind of result/decision.  I hope it is the last one and I can get on with treatment. Started this journey so positive but this constant waiting is warring.  Hope your results come back low.

Hello hddh,

Just wanted to wish you all the best for your results today.   Going through the test results Waiting Game really is the pits isn't it? If chemo is recommended,  at least you will find yourself in the good company of many others and you may like to look on  the specific chemo threads for support and sharing experiences.

All the very best to you,

Result day again tommorrow

Feeling anxious tonight. After a full left mastectomy 6 weeks ago , no lymph involvement and positive outcome from surgery , my oncologist suggested an Oncotype DX test . After nearly 3 weeks of waiting tomorrow I go for my results. I’m going with an open mind ish expecting score to be over 25 and then get on with 6 sessions of chemo to blow anything left away. Therefore a score that’s lower is a bonus isn’t it? My oncologist was positive . I had 2 small 2cm grade 2 idc lumps and a 3rd area which was a Papuloma he suggested the test as belt and braces to check if chemo would be beneficial.... finally the wait will be over this has been the worst 3 weeks xxx
