Re: Recently had a mastectomy

Hi Paula

It's Emily here from Breast Cancer Care.

I'm sorry to hear you're feeling so low at the moment. I wanted to let you know that we'd be happy to put you in touch with one of our telephone support volunteers who's had a similar experience to you, and is a couple of years past having had their mastectomy. Sometimes it can help to talk to someone who's been there too, to help you feel less alone.

If you think this would help, feel free to give us a ring on 0345 077 1893 and we'd be happy to put you in touch with someone.

Best wishes

Emily at Breast Cancer Care

Re: Recently had a mastectomy

Hi Paula. I think it is pretty normal.   I had the same thing happen to me with mastectomy followed by haematoma and then another surgery for lymph node level 2 removal.   I felt down too and cried lots and my GP told me that having two anaesthetics close together takes longer to recover from than one operation.   Going through it all is so overwhelming it is only natural that it will take its toll somewhere along the line.  I hope you feel better soon and do ask for help from your GP with your sleeping problems if they persist.  I had CBT for sleep problems which was a great help.  All the best.

Re: Recently had a mastectomy

Hi Paula- I was diagnosed with IDC of my right breast in August- had a mastectomy on 24th September. I would say it is normal to feel weepy and emotional. It's still really early days for us at the moment. Keep coming to this forum though as there's so many positive people on it going through or been through the same as us - I've had great support from this forum.
Keep your chin up - things will get better - it just takes time.
I had a reconstruction done at the same time using a tissue expander- which is seeming to be working out well for me.
Hope you're soon feeling a little bit better about everything.💖💖💖

Re: Recently had a mastectomy

Hello Paula ,welcome to the forum .Im sorry no-one has responded yet - you may get more response if you post in the surgery section or living with breast cancer sections - I will post you the links . You are still in the very early stages of recovery and the impact of 2 operations nevermind a cancer diagnosis to deal with is enough to make anyone feel anxious ,tearful and vulnerable - I would say it is totally normal to feel like that initially but if things don't improve maybe speak to your BC nurse or GP about some counselling ? Best wishes .Jill x

Recently had a mastectomy

Hi , im not to good at computers and stuff like this so bear with me, i was recently diagnosed with breast cancer in september seems a lifetime ago with all the appointments for mri scans sentinal node injections biopsies. I have invasive ductal carcinoma grade 1, recently had my left breast removed then a second operation for removal of a large heamatoma. Since the operation i have been feeling really down...not being able to look at my body very much,i thought i was coping really well till that point now i have trouble sleeping and cry a lot of the time just wondering if this is normal?
