Congrats Otter!! 🍾🎉🥂🙌🏼👏🏼🍾
I know what you mean about the end. Seeing the onc next week will be more of a closure, although you will be taking meds.
When I walk out on the 30th, I don't see anyone until July.... no meds or anything - big void! It will be fine!!
You should be so proud of yourself for getting here with such a good spirit and soul xx
Thank you 🤗🤗🤗🤗😘😘😘😘
Last rads done 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎆🎆🎆🎆😎😎😎😎
Not sure how I feel really don't think it has hit home yet maybe it's because until I see the oncologist on Tuesday I don't know what hormone treatment I will be on and for how long and still have lingering SE from chemo
you need more surgery!! you clearly have an eye issue .... or you're auditioning to be a pirate..... if you feel the need to buy a parrot, ask a grownup to step in!!
I'm working up to audition for the Ready Brek advert - only people of certain age will get that - but that's what I'm telling people I work with!!
Wow so many messages in one day!!!!!
HF, glad you've been able to enjoy time with your mum before your op. I have a fine grey fuzz all over scalp - had 1st trim today as I had some longer bits of hair. Good luck for Wednesday, hope it all goes well for you. I'm going to have a bone density scan at the end of April as I'm now on letrozol hormone tablets and they like to check out our bones plus like Lesley & Jencat I'll be having zoledronic acid twice yearly. All the best for tomorrow and definitely do the arm exercises, they do help. 🤗🤗🤗🤗👍👍👍
Btw, I went to the Ideal Home Show at Olympia yesterday and survived it!!! Along with buying a sofa I bought some eyebrow powder from a company called Ruby cosmetics. You use a stencil - thin, natural or thick over your brows and just brush the powder on. It's meant to survive sweat, swimming, water etc. I've worn it all day and it's began to look a bit faded - so not too bad in my opinion.
Carole, hope you're doing ok and enjoy your son's birthday meal 🎂
Lesley, glad you bought the wig. This is a great time to try new styles as our hair grows back. Am going to a black tie do tomorrow so just had my wig 'done' - blow dry & rollers. She looks good!! Well done on getting your first trip out of the way - only you could break the machine 😉
Bythesea it took a while for my boob to look natural. Sometimes she feels a bit firmer than at other times and I did get an infection about 8 weeks after mx but antibiotics took care of that. I don't have a nipple or areola, I can decide at later date whether to have them tattooed on. At the moment it doesn't bother me.😗
Otter great to hear you finish tomorrow - whoop whoop 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Coffee would be lovely Lesley I'm seeing the consultant on Friday, so hopefully will find out when rads starts and then I can sort out a date to meet you xx
I'm still an attractive shade of baby blue Otter!! Cons said it should be gone by July?? We will wait and see!
Good luck HF for tomorrow 😘😘😘🤗🤗🤗🍀🍀🍀
I think my blue tingeto my boob has final gone but did stay for quite a while🐦🐦
As Lesley says make sure you do your arm exercises
Thinking of you 😊😊😊
Oh I remember that HF - takes me back to September and my radioactive boob and waking up to a bluetit (not the feathered variety!).
I'm sure Bythesea and the others will back me up here when I say that doing your arm exercises after node surgery is really important - you need to keep your movement and it will improve slowly each day.
Sending positive karma and lots of soothing thoughts your way - sleep well and wake refreshed ready to kick BC to the back end of next week!!!
Yeah, not quite sure where that facial hair came from. Could do with a little more on top but my chin is happily hairless. Maybe the magic interwebs interpreted the name harryfiddler as male?! But given that we're all talking about boobs that seems a little strange!
Just spent four hours being poked and prodded and photographed and xrayed and scanned and inked. I have radioactive boobs! Tempted to go and see if they glow in the dark. But instead I'm going to pack my bag and get myself off to bed in the hope of a good night's sleep. First on the list tomorrow, 8am Sydney time. Drawing so much strength from hearing about all you champs.
Sounds like a fun start to your rads 🙃🙃🙃🙃
I've only got tomorrow to go can't believe it's gone so quickly
Also saw doctor after sezzses today he says sokin looks ok and told me radiation stays in body for upgo a month so will still feel tired and not to beat myself up for not feeling like doing anything as its like running a marathon when you get to the end you just want to collapse 😱😱😱😱😱
Good thing is he said was as long as my skin itsnt too red I can start swimming in about two weeks so l can start getting rid of some of this excess weight and getting a bit fitter
Wet again here but hope you all have a good day
We will have to do Canterbury coffee Jencat!!
That was my thinking re the first appt - allows me to get on with work 🐝
I've learnt something new today Lesley! I thought as you were Hythe way that Canterbury was further away from you than 15 miles. My friend had her rads at Canterbury hosp recently and seemed happy with her treatment there.
Surprising to know that no-one wants the early appts, think I'd rather those as it gets it over and done with and you've still got the rest of the day, plus hopefully if it's the first appt, they're running on time!
Haven't been to Canterbury for quite a while, I keep meaning to x
Morning Jencat - Canterbury is 15 miles away, Maidstone was the other option - 30 miles away.
I did a trade with the booking staff ..... take the first appt of the day (which I wanted) and go to Canterbury (which I wanted) so for me it was a win/win situation. Apparently the first appt of the day are hard to get take up on.
AnnaKarenina, thank you very much for your warm welcome and glad to hear you found the Oct thread useful xx
Morning Lesley, glad to hear you've had your first rads even although it was a bit eventful!
I was surprised you said you were going to Canterbury, isn't it quite a way from you?
I'm seeing the consultant at Sidcup hospital (Maidstone is nearer, but they can't do my rads there) on Friday, so hopefully it won't be too long before I can join you! xx
1 down, 19 to go
I managed to break their machine ....... twice!! Just the thought of me being the first patient of the day was enough to stop it starting up.... and then half way thru it had a wobble and said it was colliding with the patient - it was miles away from me!! My boobs aren't that big!!! 4 radiographers, 2 engineers and 1 very numb arm/hand and we were off again!
20 secs of radiation and it took an hour!!
You've got to laugh!! 🤣 But I couldn't cos they wanted to stay as still as possible!!
Happy Tuesday everyone xx
Happy wet bank holiday 🌧🌧🌧🌧
I would say my nails are also the strongest they have been for years the top half is a yellow colour withe ridges and the Thu bs have red flecks
My hair is slowly growing back the front is very patchy was hoping to would have grown back enough to go wig free by the summer.i had shoulder length hair before so my wig is very close to my old style so I'm hoping that I will be able to go from wig to real hair if it grows so hopefully people want notice
Lesley Good luck for your first Rads tomorrow 🍀🍀🍀🍀 will be on my 14 so will be finished on Wednesday 😊😊😊😊
Bythesea and Carole hope you are recovering well
no it's a good quality one, just don't know if I am going overboard with the purchases again!
another £120 for wigs when my own hair should be in an acceptable state in 8weeks???
Don't know if my vanity is getting the better of me. Part of me wants to know what I will look like with a cropped look, seeing as I will be putting up with it for quite a while!
I suppose I am thinking that it would be more realistic, you could go from a cropped wig to your own hair and people probably wouldnt notice ..... getting more out and about has made me realise how confusing my wigs are for anyone that sees me reguarly but doesn't know the ins and outs of whats gone on??
When I was in the office last week, one of the new members of staff commented that my hair looked great and the style suited me more on the second day I was in .... I'd worn the longer wig on the Tuesday and the shorter one on the Wednesday. It was a really uncomfortable moment until I joked it off!!
I think I have got too much time on my hands today!! overthinking things!!
More importantly - how are you doing??? xx
yep nails are getting there, top half are yellowed and ridged and bottom half look normal. I keep trimming them and applying strengthening lotion to them. They are strong as anything! Apart from the colour and ridges I would say that they are the best they have been for year!
I also read some medical info on how chemo can clear away all the bad plaque in your veins - makes sense when you think about it. In the US they use T for some cardiac patients to clean up their veins.
So maybe we should be thanking chemo for good nails and healthier veins ...... I've always been a glass half full kinda gal!! 🤣
JC/FMB - you saw me in my wig ..... long, shoulder length. My other fave one is chin length. Now my hair is growing fast and giving me hope... I am toying with the idea of getting a really short cropped wig .... something that looks like what my real hair will be when I feel comfortable going without anything ...... I've had one in a basket, removed from the basket on more than one ocassion now, but don't know if I should just go with the whole .... this is a wig and obviously a wig until I feel confident enough with a wig?? Confused.com I need some advice from you lovely ladies who are going thru the same thing???
Happy Soggy Bank Holiday everyone!
I've had a sort of restful weekend - lots of garden, but done at my pace.
Weight still being very reluctant to leave the building 😫 But hair is growing quickly on most of my head - still missing a big bit at the front!
Bythesea - when do you think you will be home? BTW you dont have to had a mx to have lopsided boobs, my lumpectomy boob is significantly bigger than the other one - OH says no woman is symmetrically naturally anyway and I shouldn't worry about it - I wasn't symmetrical to begin with apparently - who knew??
First rads for me in the morning - just organising my factor 50 before I hop on the sunbed!
Enjoy the rest of the weekend
PS It looks like HF posted overnight and it vapourised - sending damp English hugs to all antipodeans!! xx
Happy Easter from Australia. Having a thoughtful weekend as I anticipate double mx on Wednesday. My mum arrived from the UK last Tuesday so have had a lovely week socialising and swimming and having her fuss over me.
Gosh, talk of dogs and arms and pulling has just made me realise that I'm going to have to hand over walking my 25kg border collie to someone else for a bit. He's a sweetie but pulls like a train when on the lead.
I have a fine fuzz all over my head now, even on the most bald bit. Some grey but not as much as I'd feared. I did cold cap, and hated it, but the hair is certainly coming in fast on my head. Eyebrows not so much -- might get tattoos.
Good to hear all of you sounding chirpy. Getting there, AnnaKarenina! Goodness, what a marathon, BytheSea! And hope your drains come out soon, Carole. Did they send you home from hospital with them? I think they keep you in much longer here -- mind you, I'm on private health insurance because we don't have such a comprehensive NHS. Also, I guess with the double there's twice as much fluid and healing to be done. I go in Weds and hope to be out the following Monday.
Have any of you had scans etc. after chemo? I've only had a manual exam, and no real news on whether things have shrunk, will have to wait a week for full biopsy reports. Gonna be watching lots of sily distracting netflix, I think, to avoid too much scanxiety!
Have a great week -- love and hugs flying your way
Happy Easter everyone 🐣🐣🐣🐣🐰🐰🐰🐰🐥🐥🐥🐥
Bythesea hope you are feeling ok and enjoy your rock star treatment
Carole glad you are starting to feel better
Diet can wait 🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫🍫 here I come
Happy Easter 🐣🐣🐰
I don't have dogs Anadan but i am careful on my left side. I carry heavier bags in my right hand - I am right handed. Also put bags over right shoulder. I wear gloves for washing up, gardening etc. A tip I was given was to always carry a small tube of savlon in case of any accidental cuts etc to my hand, arm etc.
Lesley has some sound advice re her roll along bags - I also like Bythesea's comment about hiring a footman 😄
Bythesea enjoy your little break, the weather is meant to be rubbish anyway 🌨🌧
Take care everyone and enjoy the Easter weekend xxx
