February 2019 chemo starters

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Edinbird I have all the same worries about T and Radio.... I think because I've got through FEC fairly easily compared to a lot of people, my brain figures I'm "due" a naff time with the rest!

But I am trying to reassure myself with the fact that there seem to be plenty of people who have got through T and/or radio fairly unscathed , so it isn't a done deal it is going to be horrid.

My cousin has just finished his radio and said that it was "a doddle".  So that's encouraging Smiley Happy  my onco says that the main thing that people find tiring about it is that it is every day , so it is kind of relentless.  And usually there is travelling involved.  Swindon doesn't have a radiotherapy facility so I will have to go to oxford every day (just under 2 hour round trip)

As for when people go back to work, I think that is mainly down to when you want or have to go back, more than anything else.  Maybe if I had any other income coming into the household I would have had more time off (I don't live with my fella or take any money from him and I have never taken a penny from my ex for the kids, so it is all on me).  But I feel fine to be back at work right now, and plan to work half days through radio and then go back to normal straight after that.  If I'm up to it.  I love my job, which helps Smiley Happy

And if it makes you feel better re new bathroom, it has been pretty much unusable for 6 years!  Neither toilet or sink were working and had been disconnected.  We only used the old bathroom for the bath and everyone had to use the small loo for teeth brushing and everything else.   I never had the money to fix it (or anything else in my falling apart house) until I inherited some money from my dad.  Since then I've spent £20k getting everything sorted.  It has been painful but I'm so glad that my house doesn't look like a crumbling squat any more Smiley Very Happy

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Morning all,

I am going to try and remember every one, so here goes:

1) Sandraindurham hope you and Veronica recuperate quickly. I saw your post last night and then forgot to send you ‘get well soon ‘ wishes. Good luck with the job hunting too.

2)  Nettienoo lovely family pics. Good luck with dose 3 today.

3) Marlyn hope the blood test results allow you to go ahead with dose 4 tomorrow.

4) Seasidesar thank you for your kind words. I slept well last night ( I did wake up but I took myself through my Yoga Nidra meditation and was able to go back to sleep).

5) Daisydi I have made a mental note of Norfolk and Wintertorn beach. I have never been so it’s on my list of places to visit. Thanks.

6) Edinbird, Implausible, Trixielady, Susieb, Sonia28, MBJ, Ocean21 have a lovely day.

The sun is out here and I will be walking to town later . I may even watch some ‘magic roundabout’ on YouTube as it will be good to pretend that I am 4 again. I do have a dvd of Bagpuss!

Hope I have remembered every one ( except the new lady, that my brain is saying ‘glen ‘ something or other ).

Oh and I will be reading 🤗

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Morning everyone

Well yet another crap night's sleep😩☹. 4 hours seems to me my new normal no matter how tired I am when I go to bed🛏. I haven't been too bad since my 4th round of chemo, but that could be because I was determined to go to the party and LGFB session. Funnily enough I haven't got the Wobbly Wednesday feeling yet either, but that could come later☹. Maybe I'll check my heart rate and blood pressure later.

Caught  up with all of yesterday's chat and have discovered I must be psychic since I somehow managed to answer some of your questions regarding the make-up session without seeing them. Spooky👻👻👻👻👻.

Loving all the beautiful photos, family and scenic. Those seals are soooooooo cute. What are the terns like in Norfolk? The Arctic terns in Iceland look so sleek and pretty, but boy, get too close to their nests on the ground and they literally dive bomb you!!! Looking forward to  my little trip to France next month so I can see all the beautiful flowers in bloom🌻🥀🌹. Implausible the choo choo photo is brilliant. I'd forgotten how exciting Swindon could be😀!

So sorry to hear that some if you have had chemo delayed. Nothing seems to be guaranteed to happen  when we want  it to on this journey☹.

Will be back later for a catch up with everyone. Must get up now.  xxxx

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

I’d love a new bathroom, kitchen, most things! But what we have is ok it does the job. Cosy in bed having taken the chance to come back in the big bed whilst husband is away. Hope I’ve not shed too much hair in here! Woke up twice having dreamt that my friend had died... not nice. Hoping he talks to me a bit more today, it’ll be our fight but also me worrying about next week, I’m scared that T is gonna wipe me out completely and make me housebound. I really hope not! Having seen more about radiotherapy on some of my triple negative forums, that seems to make people exhausted too and I don’t want to be! There have been lots of posts about return to work and people are going back three months after treatment finishes! I can’t even comprehend that, is it going to be that bad?

I’m worried about sleep and steroids too... I’m going to have about three changes of pjs lined up for Sunday night given how much I normally sweat on half the dose! But with everyone getting delayed that’s worrying me too... fingers crossed for Friday’s bloods! My halfway mammogram and ultrasound is at lunchtime so away to whip my boobs out then.

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Morning all

Trixie I'm glad you are getting on well with the pac.  The lady I always see on my chemo days is having that weekly and she is getting on really well with it also.  Much better than her initial rounds of EC.  Long may your wellness continue!

Nettie what a gorgeous family you have!

Good luck to everyone getting round 4 xxx

Bathroom updates for those who asked:

20190417_073044-picsay.jpgNot a huge move forward from last time. But he has grouted the tiles. And unpacked the loo from the box although it isn't attached to anything yet

20190417_073006-picsay.jpgHe has also unpacked the new sink and dumped it on its side at the top of the stairs. Hopefully this isn't where he is planning to plumb it in! Smiley Happy

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Susie this is one of the hardest novels to keep track of, who's doing what with who and when haha and then why aren't they !!

NNettienoo so is chemo 3 on then? Fingers crossed all goes well,, strangely enough whilst on Fec my temperature was always low and wbc appeared ok but now paclitaxel temperature is hanging around 37.3 and wbc are apparently getting better but thats strange coz last chemo i didn't have the injections and always thought they were good anyway! Pleased you enjoyed getting out even if it was only to tesco

Did you ever get out to Asia to see your brother ??

Sonia hopefully your chemo won't be delayed but i bet it was fabulous to be out with the family even if you were behind them haha i can't keep up theses days i get so breathless

Seaside sar, did you enjoy the makeup session ? i thought it was worth it for the company and chat plus the goodie bag was fantastic , i was the model on mine so never been able to put my makeup on so good since haha

Ocean21 omg your garden is absolutely amazing, how's your chemo going can't remember have you had surgery??

Edinbird hope you enjoyed your pizza and film?

Implausible now come on you've got a lot of work to catch up on and hows the bathroom ?

Sandra so sorry you're both not well, you must be one strong lady to cope with all this and still want to think ahead and moving so far away

MBJ pleased the moving forward group is helping, the makeup class is well worth a visit to

Marlyn hope you enjoyed the makeup class and I'm looking forward to your after photo   pleased you didn't damage your eyes

Is your chemo delayed??

Sonia pleased you enjoyed the time spent with your famil, times so precious in between chemo

Rosina, whilst my brother was up he mentioned i should try meditation haha told him he was a bit late you'd already been posting plenty of info and some lovely recipes xx

Daisydi did you do the walk or just pinch the pictures ?? are you feeling better ?

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Yep I'll put Swindon on my wish list!  Edinbird I have been to Blakeney but not on the boats out to the seals.  I dont need to now this has been another record breaking year for them and they are breeding here now as I think Horsey is a bit crowded.  I love watching them and in the summer they quite often follow us up the beach if we are playing with the dogs.  Rosina I am in Norfolk and the beach is Winterton where I live now having moved up from London about 10 years ago.  In the summer we get lots of little terns which fly all the way from Africa to breed on our beach and also we get swifts which also come from Africa to breed.  It is a beautiful place to live especially if you like wild life.  We also have adders on the dunes so have to be careful with the dogs.  Just had another ice lolly so feeling cool xx

I’m not sure what’s happening when I read the post lots aren’t there, then I post my message and see lots of messages.

Sandra,

I’m so sorry to hear about you and Veronica not being well, I had a virus on the first round and that was awful, fingers crossed this must get better for you both 🤞

Edinbird, I’m hanging on in there with my hair, not sure what I will do if I loose more, I think it’s one of the worse parts of this whole Barry cancer. I’m sure you will look fab what ever you wear xx

night Rosina, xx

Daisydi,

love the seals. Where is the beach?

Implausible you do make me laugh with your way with words.

Make over Ladies I am glad you enjoyed yourselves.

Edinbird the handybands from Seasalt are excellent. I can get them to cover my whole head.

I was asked at the hospital yesterday by another patient where I had got my head cover from, so I must be getting something right.

Goodnight , sleep tight,

Sandra I can’t believe Veronica now has another ailment to worry about... and you too. I really hope you can both rest and recover and come back stronger.

Sarah - thanks it’s my fault this time... it’s ok don’t worry. He’s getting a quiet evening I’ve just watched Christopher Robin (love Eeyore). Ordinarily I’d have had a glass of wine on a night like this but not these days!

Just been stressing about what to cover my bald patches with at dinner tomorrow... then I remembered I have a baker boy hat as my chemo cap with scarf is too big and covers my eyes too much. My balding patches are dreadful I just tried on a headband I have and it covers precisely nothing! I’m not giving up, caps for the next year I think! Need some more smart hats then (husband will be delighted 😂)

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

PPPS Seaside I used to detest parent /toddler groups too!  I never fitted in with the other mums and had no idea how to make small talk with them.   It was the same when I used to pick my kids up at the school gates.  All the other mums chatting away and me stood there on my tod feeling awkward.

Eek. The closer this look good feel better thing gets the more worried I get that I'll be the nobby-no-mates again Smiley Happy  But at least by definition I've already got something rather major in common with everyone who will be there...

Thanks for the reassurance Susie.  I'm sure I'll be fine when I get there.  I'm just so rubbish at meeting new people.

Hi Everyone

LGFG session was good fun. Implausible if your session is anything like ours you won't be sat there have stuff lathered all over your face. Most of the cleansing and make-up was done ourselves after seeing it being demonstrated on a couple of willing volunteers. One of the ladies pencilled in one if my eyebrows and I did the other as they have got a bit thin and will no doubt disappear completely when I go onto T🤤. The goody bag is definitely worth going for💄👝 ☺. Will try and update tomorrow and catch up with all of today's posts. Have a lovely evening  everyone.❤❤❤❤❤❤

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Hi ladies, loads to read but I just wanted to send you all my love.

Veronica had to delay her Chemo because she caught a cough virus when she went to the clinic to draw some bloods.

She is going through a rough patch, doesn't want to go anywhere afraid of virus and then she gets this.

Apparently this virus is spreading quite quickly and it seems I caught it as-well.

I am still quite weak from the kidney removal and these things happen.

OK, as soon as I have a break I will be here reading.

Bless you all, take care.

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

I don't know, you lot, while I've been stuck behind a desk all day working on spreadsheets you've been:

Hobnobbing with deer and seals,

getting your make up did,

putting the world to rights with the soroptimists (sp?),

making new pals over a slice of cake and getting goodie bags,

and walking along glorious beaches?????

It's alright for some! Smiley Very Happy

I just went out for a post work walk and saw a cargo train go past.  Any good? Smiley Happy

20190416_182333-picsay.jpgI reckon that the Swindon tourist board should give me a job, I'm selling it so well!

PS Nettie I'm glad you got some positives from your delay week.  At least you know now that it won't take that long once all the chemo is over to get it out of your system and start to feel a little better and back to normal.... which is reassuring

PPS Edinbird tell your bestie from me to stop being so damn high maintenance! Smiley Happy you could do without the hassle right now.  It sounds like the kind of friendship I used to have with my old best friend.  Me and she were crazy close but we also fought like siblings!  Not healthy really!

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Aw Daisy the seals are so cute! 😍 as is the deer 🦌 which I spotted (zoomed in waaay big 😂) have you been on the boats out to the sandbanks at Blakeney? We did years ago they are just like lines of fat sausages!

Been quiet today, husband is away again and was meant to see my friend but we had another falling out (won’t bore you) so cinema plans abandoned. Things are ok and I have films to watch here so just going to put a pizza in and do that. Tomorrow is scans at lunch and then my old boss and her husband (who used to be a Chief Inspector so I know him too) are visiting Edinburgh so just making dinner plans with them. Husband will get off the train in his suit and with a big bag and will have to be loaded and overdressed! Oh well... picking my way through menus for Italians going no, no, no... all the things I like are off limits!! Probably end up with a dull bolognese or something but can’t be too careful 😐

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

I’ve had a lovely day with the family completed for a change.

We went for a wonder to a country park this morning then an afternoon at Torquay.

Heard back from oncology, I have to go in early tomorrow for blood test to check levels again, I’m guessing it’s my Liver again as they said this morning my levels were too high, but that’s a pure guess

Hi everyone,

Hope you enjoyed the LGFB session, Susie. You look lovely.

Rosina, you do sound like you're suffering from fatigue my lovely. Well done for still getting out for a walk.

Fab photos again Ocean. Good job you escaped the dog fart!

Sonia did you hear back from the hospital yet?

Sarah I was like you, a bit out of my comfort zone going to the tea & cake meeting today. It reminded me of parent & toddler sessions which I didn't really enjoy. However today was a good way to network. I did meet some lovely ladies, one of whom is on the exact same regime as me so it was useful to have a chat. We've swapped numbers and will meet again. The same group also organise evening meetings where they have guest speakers and activities so it was a good way to find out what else is on offer in MK. I also got a goody bag which I was apparently meant to get when I had surgery.

20190416_161600.jpgMy first goody bag of the week!

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Susie you look loverly!  Thanks to all for your photos.  My friend took some over the weekend so maybe just maybe I can work out how to get them on here.  I ventured out in the car for the first time today to the local co-op and there was a woman in there coughing so much I put my jumper over my head.  I bet security were worried.  This is only day 9 so hopefully things are on the up.  My worst problem this time is my mouth which is so sore and my tongue feels like it has been dipped in acid.  Today I cant drink coffee for the first time and I have bought a big box of ice lollies which are my only relief.  Sorry to hear that next sessions have been delayed for some of you.  On a positive note I still have hair on head and everywhere else.  Thank god there must be a positive for having hairy genes.  And the sun is shining and it is warming up.   Yay xxxxx

MBJ,

try to zoom in.

Then look at the second  large tree trunk to the left . Count 2 smaller tree trunks that are along side it (practically   stuck it seems on the right) the deer ( it’s young - no antlers- is standing next to them) . It was watching me.

Hi Marlyn

Soroptimists is an international women's organisation a bit  like Rotary. We raise money for charity, raise awareness about issues such as human trafficking, domestic violence, issues that affect women and girls. We work locally, nationally and Internationally. It's a good group to belong to, some of it is a bit boring mainly the business meetings, but we do a lot of fun things too. I was president about 7years ago, hard work.

Hi Ocean21,

I am catching up on posts and your lovely photos have cheered me up ( especially the roses).

I feel like a muppet after that perfume episode last evening ( I have never done something like that before) and also posting to myself. I am loosing the plot.

I am typing this from my bed.

I have been for a walk too.

Saw a deer. Felt like I was sleep walking again so this must be fatigue????

For me it’s more mental though as I have done my yoga stretches , housework and I could have kept on walking.

My appetite is fine too.

Then again I am sleeping for England.

Love to all,

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Jackson, pardon you sweetie, better out than in eh!

Marlyn and Sonia I’m keeping everything crossed that you aren’t delayed. Although, my week’s delay has meant I have actually found the energy to do some housework and walk into town in the last couple of days for the first time since chemo started so quite positive in that respect.

My chemo is tomorrow afternoon Marlyn.

Susie I hope your session went well. In this area you have to wait for months for a Look good course. I’m sure the next available one I could  go on was after my chemo finishes. I hope it turns out to be worth the long wait. X

lol...yes, I've been a complete drama queen hypochondriac! Plus my lovely hubby does all the shopping and doesn't want me near germy people. If any of my residents are ill I wear a surgical mask, I'm almost tempted to wear rubber gloves too, but I think that would scare them, they would probably think I'm about to carry out some examinations on them...

also gobmacked that your work actually expects you to work...blimmin nerve! Don't they realise we need you too?? Xxx

Hi Girls

The flowers are so beautiful Ocean 21, yes dog farts are awful, but our cat can be even worse, maybe that's usually because he is cwtching on my lap when he does it 😂.

Susie B how did the feel good session go, I have not got around to booking one yet. Mainly because the parking in the hospital is a nightmare and I have been doing the Moving forward course.

Marlyn yes I would recommend it I has been good to talk to others who like us have the same worries, hopes and fears. The sessions have been quite good in the main. Some have been easier to deal with than others. I found the one on being body aware and the counseling sessions the hardest. But then they were also probably the most important.

Sorry to hear some of you are having delays, but better than risking it if bloods not right.

I am going to go to my Soroptimist AGM tonight where we will be welcoming in our new President for the forthcoming year, followed by a meal. The members have been very supportive of me in the last months.

I hope you have a good day girls x.

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

afternoon all

First chance I've had to get on today as am in the office today and apparently they expect me to do actual work and not just sit around chatting to my Barry Buddies. The cheek!

Rosina - I hope you are feeling better today and have recovered from the perfume accident - I bet that stung!!

Marlyn - yup the steroids switch from only post chemo with FEC, to starting the day before with T. My onc says it is because people can have a bad allergic reaction to T, and having the steroids already in your system mitigates against that. Makes sense. I kind of enjoy the steroid part (they make me so much more assertive than I usually am, and full of energy - I kind of like feisty 'roid rage me Smiley Very Happy)

Susie - the fringe might work better with a less stretchy hat, agreed, I use mine inside a cap and it stays put nicely.

MBJ - I do like the sound of the moving forward course (although maybe not the alternative medicine bit as I am not a big believer Smiley Happy - I'd still find it interesting though) - but sadly I looked on the big long list and they don't seem to do one anywhere near me - closest is an hour away Smiley Sad I might still try to do it anyway and hope work don't mind that it will take me out of action for 4 full mornings/afternoons including the travel time....

Glennherriot - not sure if you have popped in from one of the other monthly threads to give us some encouragement (in which case, thank you!), or if you are a February starter like us? If the latter, please let us know a little more about yourself and how you have got on the past couple of months. We've all had varied experiences of chemo so far and it is always really interesting to hear different experiences.

Trixielady - great to hear from you. Glad you are getting on well treatment wise and that you got to spend some time with your brother. Hope your niece is recovering well x

Daisydi sorry to hear you are having such a rough time this time around Smiley Sad - hopefully those Barrying side effects are starting to lift now?

Seaside - hope your tea and cake event is fun and you meet some nice people. My local hospital has a monthly coffee morning for breast cancer peeps - I found out about it the other day when I was googling looking to see if anyone does art therapy around here (sadly, no). I've never considered myself the "coffee morning" type, but depending on how you get on today, maybe I should consider popping along? This is going to sound really awful, and I don't mean it to!! But I'm not used to socialising with "normal people" Smiley Very Happy All my friends are either comic book nerds, graffiti artists or hockey nuts. But maybe I should push myself out of my comfort zone a little Smiley Very Happy

Marlyn (again) - how have you managed to avoid Tesco all this time???? I am literally in mine every day! As the kids are flipping useless at telling me what we are running out of.....   I'm less worried about germs at the shops than I am here at work - all I can hear around the building is coughs and sneezes!  Luckily the worst afflicted know they need to keep their distance from me....

Sonia - fingers crossed re your bloods - I hope you don't have a delay

Susie - looking good already! enjoy your Look Good Feel Better thing - mine is tomorrow - I'm oddly nervous (terrifed!) about it. I'm not one for "pampering" and have never been to anything remotely like it before.

Ocean - beautiful flowers!! <3

and yes it looks like the damage to ND is a lot less than it could have been - what a relief - and as you say, what heroes the firefighters were to hold the fire back as well as they did. I do hope nobody has been injured or worse, I've only seen the news mention damage to the building so I presume not?

Right - I'd better get back to work!!

love to all

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Hey there beauties,

Rosina hope that your eyes and face have recovered.

Reading your sagas with blood levels I feel very lucky so far. The things I have high levels for haven’t stopped treatment although I worry about them. My liver is pretty stressed and my cholesterol is slight above normal limits. GP says not to worry but you do don’t you.

Marlyn, well done with your Mission Impossible moves through a Tesco’s. When we go shopping ,I don’t like touching the trolley handles. We went to the cash point the other day and the keypad was foul. Before chemo I bought loads of hand disinfectants and wipes, I’ve got them all over the house, in the car and in various bags. So they get well used.

Trixielady , nice to see you pop in and update us. Hope you and all the family is doing as well as you can given the circumstances.

Commiserations for all who’ve had treatment delayed. A frustration when we all just want this over and done with.

Weather here is lovely. Don’t what it’s like in Paris. The Notre Dame is a shocker. I haven’t caught up with the latest news but will do tonight. The damage is to the roof and the spire mainly.  The firemen and women are heroes for managing to  contain  it the way they have.  rebuild costs are going to be huge but would have been astronomical had the damage got to the main building and towers.

Got someone helping in the garden today , so a very happy bunny indeed.

Jackson, the canine destroyer has just let rip one of his silent but deadly farts so a good time to get outside again Smiley Happy))

Today I actually went to our local Tesco ( first time since chemo began) I was a bit like a ninger elite soldier, tiptoeing in, looking around me, listening for coughs and sneezing and giving anyone who looked even remotely dodgy a very wide birth......came out with some socks and a pair of slippers....mission accomplished! Phew!!

Good morning beauties,

Lovely to hear from you Trixielady. Hope you continue to be OK after your treatments. Take care xx

Good luck for treatment today Nettie. Hope it all goes well xx

Thank you for popping in glennherriott. Yes, we can!

Couldn't believe the news about Notre Dame. So sad.

I had some friends over last night who stayed quite late. This followed by a rubbish night's sleep has left me feeling really tired today. I'm still intending to go for tea and cake this aftenoon though and meet some other people from around here going through treatment.

Hope the day is kind to you all.

Re: February starters 2019 - yes, we rule!

Hi Marlyn

Read my post back and realised it wasn't very clear as to what I was replying to. My trial is to see if chemo can indeed be reduced from 8 to 6 down to 4 sessions. If the FEC hadn't worked to my onc's expectations then I would have gone onto TC for 4 sessions☹ prior to surgery. That's the risk I was prepared to take.  Hope this makes more sence. xxx
